It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of former staff member, Monica Tomalin, on 30 June 2024, aged 93 years.
Monica started at Shiplake College when it opened in 1959, as Shiplake's first school secretary. She worked in the main school office until 1973, for many years running the show single-handed. She then worked as Skipwith House Matron until her retirement in 1995. Many will remember how Monica cycled from Henley to Shiplake every day and was the first in the pool every spring and the last one out in the autumn. She will also be remembered for her outstanding abilty to put a name and house to every face in the College.
Monica was described as an indefatigable and loyal servant to the College since its foundation. She will be deeply missed by all who had the priviledge of knowing her.
To honour the life of former staff member, Monica Tomalin, the College will be holding a tree planting memorial on Friday 18th October at 4:00pm with a drinks reception afterwards. Please let us know you would like to attend by clicking here.
The family request no flowers but donations to Alzheimer's Society online at monicatomalin.muchloved.com or via Tomalin & Son Funeral Directors, Anderson House, 38 Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames.
Thank you for continuing to hold Monica's family in your thoughts.
