We are saddened to share the news that Old Viking Joe Jenkins died, aged just 32, on 20 November 2025. Joe was at Shiplake from 2006-2011 and a member of Welsh House. His mum Debbie kindly shared this short tribute:
"Joe qualified as a chartered surveyor and was having a sabbatical in Bangkok to focus on being a qualified nutritional therapist. He wanted to help others live as he did with chronic ulcerative colitis. He returned to the UK in May for health concerns and was diagnosed with colon and bowel cancer. He died at home on 20 November 2025 and we celebrated his life with many Old Vikings on Friday 12 December."
Good friend James Dobree-Carey (OV 11W) adds:
"He was a much loved member of Welsh house & our year group. A one of a kind character who lit up any room he went into. A passionate tennis player, he represented the school many times. He also played for the 1st XV in rugby and toured South Africa in 2009 which he greatly enjoyed. Sorely missed."
Donations can be made in Joe's memory to St Luke's Hospice, Plymouth at www.memorygiving.com/josephdavidjenkins (please note the page closes on 2 January 2026).
