Nick says: The Henley exhibitions hold particular significance for me, allowing my painting practice to intersect with my background in sport. As a former winner of the Henley Royal Regatta with Leander Club, I often explore rowing as a subject, using it as a framework to examine movement, rhythm, and the interaction between light and water.
At the core of my practice is an ongoing fascination with light and water, and the way they fracture, reflect, and dissolve form. I work with rich, layered colour, often using impasto to create surfaces that feel energetic and tactile. More recently, I have begun incorporating graffiti-style paints alongside traditional oils, pushing my work towards a more contemporary edge while maintaining a connection to classical painting techniques. This fusion reflects my continued desire to experiment and evolve, blurring the boundaries between abstraction, structure, and expressive mark-making.
You can see Nick's new collection at Amber Galleries, Market Place, Henley on Saturday 25th April from 3-5pm.
