Saturday 7 October saw this year's OVS Golf Day take flight and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. The clear blue skies and gentle breeze made for ideal playing conditions, and it set the stage for a fantastic day of golf.
Badgemore Park's golf course itself was in impeccable condition. The meticulously manicured fairways and greens provided a picturesque backdrop our teams, made up of multi-generations of Old Vikings. The lush greenery and well-placed hazards, including the high hedge and mid-bank of trees on the fairway, challenged both beginners and seasoned players, ensuring a fair test of skill for everyone involved.
One of the highlights of the day was the camaraderie among the teams and the trouser collection of our youngest players – Harry Stokes, Alex Long and Harry Batchelor, from the Class of 2022. It was heartwarming to see lots of laughter and encouragement throughout the rounds.
As the teams came in, drinks at the bar followed by a delicious meal and of course the post-game awards!
Longest Drive went to Alex Long, Nearest the Pin to Luke McGuire, with Team Runners-up to Matt Laurensen, Harry Laflin and Luke McGuire. The coveted Shiplake OVS Stableford Team Trophy went to Harry Stokes, Alex Long and Harry Batchelor.
Player of the Day, with the highest score was a two-way tie on 37, aptly went to two Harry’s – Harry Stokes and Harry Batchelor – who shared the honour and returned the Trophy to the Shiplake cabinet.
A massive thank you to Peter Webb for his excellent organisation of the event, including the much-appreciated bacon sandwiches on arrival! And of course to Badgemore Golf Club for hosting a wonderful day.
