On Saturday 4 October 2025, our Old Viking golfers, once again, gathered at the picturesque Badgemore Golf Club for the annual Old Viking Golf Day.
Our Old Vikings began arriving at 11am, greeted by glorious autumn sunshine. A bacon roll and hot drink awaited each attendee, providing a hearty start before venturing out onto the course. While the skies were clear and the scenery stunning, a persistent and blustery wind swept across the fairways, adding a mischievous twist to the day’s play.
Golfers were divided into teams, each group embracing the challenge with good humour. The wind made for an unpredictable round with many shots veering off course and although the weather prevented any personal bests, spirits and enthusiasum remained high.
As always, the event featured a range of contests including longest drive, nearest the pin, and both individual and team Stableford competitions.
After the final hole was played, players returned to the clubhouse for a well-earned dinner. The day concluded with the awards ceremony, led by organiser Peter Webb (former Shiplake staff 1977–2004)
This year's deserving winners were:
Longest Drive - Noah Miller
Nearest the Pin - James Black
Individual Highest Stableford - David Squire
Team Stableford – The Shiplake College OVS Cup
3rd Place - David Squire, Iain Duckworth, Jonny Fordham, Charlie Chavasse
2nd Place - Ben MacPhee, James Black, Bertie Jarvis, Oliver Vizard
1st Place - Ross Johnstone, Charlie Bertram, Chris Miller, Noah Miller
A massive thank you to Peter Webb for organising the event, to the Badgemore Golf Club team for their outstanding hospitality and to Seamus Jeffs for his help with scoring.
Thank you to all who joined us and made this year’s windy Golf Day one to remember!
