Did you know there will be a PARTIAL eclipse of the Sun tomorrow (Wednesday 12 August 2026)? 

Why is it important? Although it's not a TOTAL eclipse - around 91% of the sun will be covered - the best we will see until 2090!! 

So what do you need to know... 

Location: Berkshire / South Oxfordshire / Bucks

Time: Wed 12 Aug, times (BST):

Start - around 6-6:15pm / 7:10pm should be the maximum partial eclipse

End - 8:00pm 

Where to watch:

As the sun will be going down, you NEED a clear, unobstructed view west/west-northwest, a clear horizon (I recommend you check your spot the evening before at the same time and the weather forecast)

How to watch:

🚫 Safety: non-negotiable:

1. NEVER look at the Sun without ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses
2. Sunglasses are NOT safe, even stacked
3. Never point a phone/camera/binoculars at it without a solar filter

No glasses? You will need to look at its projected image.

Build these instead:

• Pinhole projector (card + pinhole + screen) or pinhole camera (use a shoe box or a cereal box, you will find hundreds of videos to help you with the design)
• Kitchen colander held up to project dozens of little crescent suns
• Look under a tree: the space between the leaves will act a pinholes

In all these options, you must turn your back from the sun.

• If you want to film it:
• If you have a filter for your camera, perfect that will work
• If you have not got a filter for your lens, then film the projections, not the Sun. Tripod + steady before/after shots over the 2 hours
• Wide shots of the dimming, cooling light will work beautifully too.
