On Wednesday 25 September, Shiplake College hosted its highly anticipated Shiplake College Community Golf Cup, bringing together parents - past and present - alongside pupils and staff for a day of golfing endeavour! Teams gathered from midday for a treat of bacon rolls, fuelling the excitement and anticipation for the day ahead.
With a forecast of rain looming, the decision was made for an early tee-off, in the hope that all 11 teams could get out on the course before the weather turned. Among the groups were our first-ever Shiplake Juniors, showcasing a truly impressive ability and love of the game. Despite returning a little damp from the course, the spirits of all players remained high, exemplifying the Shiplake Community spirit!
Play was followed by a delicious dinner that provided a perfect opportunity to unwind and share stories from the course. The evening culminated in an award ceremony, where players were recognised for their outstanding performances.
Nearest the Pin went to Raiph Surplice and Longest Drive was awarded to Peter Rosser.
The Individual Senior Awards went to Clive Lucking, Thibault Mallett and Nick Broomfield with the Individual Junior Award going to Max Shevlane.
The Senior Team Winners were Clive Lucking (Captain), Bob Spence, Gary Rider and Doug Fulton.
The Junior Team and Overall Team Winners were Laurie Tate (Captain), L Emmett, Digby Baker and Raiph Surplice.
The turnout for the event was great, highlighting the strong sense of community at Shiplake College. It was heartening to see so many familiar faces come together and return to defend their titles! The success of this year’s event has already sparked enthusiasm to build on this momentum for next year’s Community Golf Day. We hope you will join us again, bringing more friends and family, to continue this cherished tradition and make next year even better!
