Taking place in the Prize Giving Marquee on a gloriously sunny Saturday 29 June, the theme for this year was ‘Go for Gold’ - a nod to the upcoming Olympic Games.
Alumni and Events Officer, Mrs Spearing, writes:
'The Parents' Association went all out to create a glamorous and extravagant evening for the guests, with gold and laurel wreath decorations, the introduction of our new ‘Shiplake’ lights (kindly donated to the College by the PA), and a luxurious menu – the latter featuring our very own doughnut wall and podium!
At the ‘start line’ of the evening, golden drinks and canapes were served under the gaze of a beautiful summer’s evening. Our guests were then welcomed by Headmaster Tyrone Howe, who was joined by Mrs Fiona Devine MBE, who addressed attendees with a passionate and moving speech about the charity – the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service - she co-founded and the inspiring and amazing work they do.
An Olympic themed game of Heads and Tails followed shortly afterwards, before a delicious three-course dinner was served by Thomas Franks. Then it was time for everyone to get to their feet and to take to the dancefloor where the magnificent band, Uptown Showdown, got the party going with their fantastic playing and high energy!
One of the highlights of the evening was the incredible generosity of the donors who contributed to the event. Local businesses and individuals donated a wide range of prizes for the raffle and silent auction, including luxurious getaways, spa vouchers, sports memorabilia, bespoke artwork, and exclusive dining experiences. Our wonderful parents also showed their incredible support and generosity too by bidding and giving in support of the Alexander Devine Children’s Charity.
Throughout the evening, there was a sense of real community spirit as new and existing parents and staff came together to enjoy the festivities and celebrate another fantastic year.
As we cross the ‘finish line’ of the school year, it’s fair to say that the Shiplake College Summer Ball was a huge success. A big thank you must be said for the hard work and dedication of the Parents' Association, the Shiplake events, estates and catering teams, and for the generosity of the donors. The event not only provided a memorable evening for all who attended but will also make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and families supported by the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice. If we were awarding medals for the evening, I think we can conclude that there is only one colour that would be fitting!'
