Teams were welcomed to a beautiful open fairway with bacon sandwiches, teas and coffees to fuel up for the afternoon ahead.
The teams were made up of mostly parents from members of the Shiplake community – mostly parents but also staff and friends of the College including recent Old Viking, Fergus Heggie, and a current Year 10 pupil, J Waldegrave. We even saw the return of Old Viking and UK Top 50 Elite Golf Coach, Ben Emerson, who joined Headmaster Mr Howe for what would prove to be an excellent round of golf.
The first team, captained by Bob Spence, tee’d off at 1.30pm swiftly followed by Team Lucking. The fairway proved to be challenging with a natural slope peppered with large trees and a few well-placed bunkers. Once out of sight, the sun continued to shine all the way through until our last team, captained by Nick Broomfield, came over the horizon on the 18th hole at around 5.30pm.
As the teams came in, drinks at the bar were followed by a delicious meal, and of course the post-game awards!
Longest Drive was awarded to Ian Stone and Nearest the Pin went to Alex Woodeson.
The individual awards went to Tyrone Howe who came 3rd place; Clive Lucking who came 2nd place; with 1st place going to Mark Robertson. The Team Award went to Matt Tate’s Team – Alex Woodeson, Edward Baker and James Craig - congratulations to them on winning this coveted trophy!
A massive thank you to Ian Heggie for his excellent organisation of the event and stepping up to deliver the awards! And a huge thank you must also go to Henley Golf Club for their superb hospitality and delivering what will be in no doubt become an annual date for the diary.
